Beauty Is in the Eye of the Beholder
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so the saying goes. Whoever holds beauty, sees it as beautiful. What does the beholder see that others do not?
Maybe the beholder of elegance and charm sees through a different lens, one centered on its essence. Or perhaps, the beholder observes from a different angle, one of appreciation and awe.
What is beauty anyway? It is “the quality or aggregate of qualities in a person or thing that gives pleasure to the senses or pleasurably exalts the mind or spirit.” In other words, beauty stirs something within the beholder.
When I behold beauty, it draws my spirit and captivates me. I am not sure I have the ability to articulate this interior movement, however, when I experience it, be it an encounter with a person, an experience in nature, or a song, something is stirred.
Dear sister, who beholds your beauty?
God the Father beholds each one of us and his heart stirs with admiration and love. If we believe we are beheld by God, we will see ourselves as beauty. But, if we are beheld by the world or anyone other than our Father, we will always strive to be beautiful. Striving for “beautiful” will leave us in pursuit of an empty promise.
The world will never crown us beautiful, never. Only a King can crown his beloved daughter. Sisters, we are worthy of being crowned and the King does not forget to crown his daughter.
Oh how the world would have us believe otherwise – that beauty is something we must chase. But our King says, “how beautiful you are, my darling, how beautiful you are!” (Song of Solomon 1:15).
Beautiful!
