Desert Journey – Day 25

Day Light Savings Time has eluded the birds. They are not singing yet. They don’t seem to be the least bit concerned with time. I would like that, to not be concerned with time.

Timing is everything, so they say. And yet the Lord’s time is independent of any parameters. I am a time-keeper and yet it eludes me. I seem to be governed by time and lose track of it all the same. Maybe it’s a stage of life.

In the desert, time is irrelevant. To an extent, it appears to stand still. Maybe my pace of life is so accelerated that the desert creates such a noticeable contrast. Maybe time doesn’t matter when in the presence of Jesus.

Yesterday, I focused a lot on the horizon. It wasn’t easy to remember as my tendency is to bury myself in the grains of sand. My friend’s words echoed throughout the day, “you’ll never see until you stop looking.” Not sure how ‘seeing’ and time go together.

I wait for insight from Jesus. We are sitting in the sand looking out. Jesus doesn’t say anything, however, I sense that time does not belong to me; I have grasped at something that is not mine to own. Apart from Jesus, time seems to govern, with him, it seems inconsequential. I hand over to Jesus what is gripped in my hand. It took great energy to hold that tightly to time. Free of its constraints, I lean back in the sand. ‘Seeing’ appears to be a little easier now.
