Desert Journey – Day 37
Outstretched
The power pose is a stance that displays power. Supposedly, it helps us overcome our doubts, fears, insecurities and boosts our confidence. Somehow, standing like a superhero or looking like we just crossed the finish line of a race, with arms outstretched, does something to improve our psyche.
My mind runs to the hundreds of depictions I have seen of the crucifixion, with Jesus’ arms extended. Strange, that the same posture that signifies death on a cross, is the same posture that supposedly brings us power and confidence.
We stand at the desert’s edge. How can we be here already? Wandering thoughts flood my mind and I cannot focus. I know Jesus must leave soon and yet the distractions are overwhelming. I pray against them and claim the helmet of salvation to cover my mind.
The hour is at hand, I hear Jesus say. My heart is overcome with heaviness for I know that my sins lead him to the cross. Lord, I confess…
Outstretched and vulnerable, power and confidence, the encapsulation of the cross, sacrifice and victory.
Beautiful and yet overwhelming of His sacrifice for us!
Very powerful analogy!
Thank you for sharing and giving me the opportunity to ponder in this way~
