God Weeps Too
God weeps too. The tears of the Father roll down his face as his heart breaks for all his children, both those who know him and those who don’t. Grief, suffering, violence, injustice, a heart ache so deep it takes the breath away. Tears are sheds as he watches hurt and anger spill out into the streets.
“God weeps too, God weeps too. Though we question Him for all that we go through. Still it helps me to believe and my faith it does relieve. Just to think that God weeps too.”
Eli “God Weeps Too” from Things I Prayed For
I haven’t thought of this song in years, but I awoke with it in my heart a few days ago. Eli is a singer/songwriter from the late 90’s early 2000’s. His music seems profound at this time. As I pray and shed tears for our nation and its people, this song reminds me that God weeps too.
Growing up, my dad was always stoic. I don’t think I ever saw him cry. He’s a depression era kid and that meant you kept a stiff upper lip. That’s how it was. But, with the passing years some of that stiffness has loosened and now and again, he sheds some tears. Watching him often causes me to get a lump in my throat and mistiness in my eyes. There’s just something about seeing your father shed tears.
As I close my eyes and pray, I think of our Heavenly Father, his heart grieving for the division, animosity and even hatred his children have for one another, I am pretty certain the Father’s tears accompany ours. Over the millenniums, the Father has witnessed everything that has ever been done to his children. Nothing escapes his sight, nothing, no injustice, no act of hatred, no sin. He has seen all.
God has asked us to do two simple things, love him and love our neighbor. I don’t think the tears falling from heaven will end until we get this right.
“…aim for restoration, comfort one another, agree with one another, live in peace; and the God of love and peace will be with you.
2 Corinthians 13:11
Beautiful words. Thank you!
